The Young New Yorkers team is excited to invite you to this year’s Silent Art Auction Celebrating the Art and Activism of Shepard Fairey.

VIEW LOTS AND BID ON PADDLE8 The auction will survey some of the best street and urban artists in New York and beyond, and is curated by Ann Lewis (Gilf!), Lunar New Year, and Maya Levin. Bid on works by Shepard Fairey, Swoon, Gaia, Icy & Sot, and dozens more to support Young New Yorkers. YNY provides arts-based diversion programs to court-involved 16- and 17-year-olds who, in New York State, are tried as adults in the criminal justice system. YNY graduates’ cases are dismissed and sealed, leaving them free of the collateral consequences of an adult criminal record.
SHEPARD FAIREY was among the first to support Young New Yorkers’ innovative diversion programs. A collection of his artworks will be featured at the Auction, and he is a living example of many of Young New Yorkers’ greatest aspirations, owing to his commitment to advocacy, and the transformational nature of his work and life.

ABOUT YOUNG NEW YORKERS
New York is one of only two states in the US that arrests and sentences 16- and 17-year-olds as adults, despite the fact that these young people are unable to vote and influence the legislature. The criminal court gives eligible 16- and 17-year-old defendants the option to participate in a Young New Yorkers program instead of spending time in jail, incurring other adult criminal justice sanctions, and being saddled with a lifelong adult criminal record. Our goal is to empower 16- and 17-year-olds to exit the criminal justice system as quickly as possible, and, in most cases, upon successful completion of the program, a participant’s case is sealed. To-date, 100% of over 250 participants have successfully graduated from our programs.
Young New Yorkers’ inaugural 8-Week Arts Diversion Program in 2012 was fully funded by the first Silent Art Auction. Since then, YNY has flourished—the Silent Art Auction helped support programs for over 75 teenagers in 2014, and for over 125 teenagers in 2015.
